A Brief History of the Legion of Frontiersmen

The Legion of Frontiersmen was founded in London in 1904 by Captain Roger Pocock. It is a world wide organization having commands throughout the world. This organisation was first formed in New Zealand in 1911. Its first unit was in Christchurch. Various units have spread throughout New Zealand since this time. The Legion is a nonpolitical association established within New Zealand for the public benefit for the following purposes:

To assist Civil Authorities and Community organisations.

To act in support of and in cooperation with civil authorities and other emergency services in times of disaster and emergency.

To instruct young persons under the age of 18 years in the principles of discipline, loyalty and good citizenship by encouraging them to participate as members of the Legion in the carrying out of the aforesaid purposes.

To record for posterity, any and all, information on the history of the Legion in New Zealand.
