For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Whilst preparing a road with has company, they were caught in a heavy hostile barrage, which inflicted many casualties.  This officer returned into the barrage to assist in attending to the wounded and to superintend their removal on several occasions. The cool and skilful manner in which he handled his men.
