The Legion of Frontiersmen New Zealand Command (Inc) website is dedicated to the memory of Legion Lieutenant Micheal "Mike" David Smith. Mike was born 15 January 1956 and served in the Royal New Zealand Air Force from May 1977 to October 1988. He enrolled in the Legion of Frontiersmen in October 1995 and joined E Squadron in Matamata. Mike was dedicated to the heritage of the Legion of Frontiersmen, and believed that the history should be shared widely. More than 30 years ago in an effort to communicate the achievements of the Legion of Frontiersmen he established the original New Zealand Command website. Through the intervening years as the webmaster he continually maintained and expanded the website. His dedication and service to the Legion of Frontiersmen was recognized by the award of the Legion Meritorious Service Medal. Mike passed away in Matamata on 14 September 2025.

Mike's dedication and efforts to the Legion of Frontiersmen are now forever memorialized through this website.
